Michael explained the design process for his performance clothes. He told The Washington Post in 1984: “I just I tell them what I want, and they make it. Sometimes I sketch them. I love to design. Late last night I was up until 4 in the morning. I had an idea and sketched it and sent it Federal Express to Los Angeles. It was a shirt with ruffles.”
