In 1983, a push to honor Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led to the creation of a U.S. national holiday that we celebrate today. In March of that year, Michael Jackson fought cultural segregation and moved MTV to debut his short film “Billie Jean,” becoming the first black artist in regular rotation on the network.
