In answer to a question during a 1977 interview, when asked about who Michael admired growing up, he said: “I had those that I admired, like James Brown, a man that today doesn’t get the credit he should get from the music industry. Look what he did to music: all these funky tracks that you hear today, that’s where it came from. Sly Stone, James Brown, these are people that started funky music.
