Wow is right! All I can say is "I am moved to tears" - this is a wonderful way of helping the people of Haiti. What is also wonderful is the diversity of artists, just like 25 years ago! I loved it - I loved it very much. Thank you for keeping Michael in this video. I know his mother wanted it and his fans needed it!

We don’t have to support the remake in order to support Haiti.
That’s one thing about America…we have giving hearts. We are drawn to help those in need…even if we don’t have a lot ourselves. We ARE The World should have been left alone…NOT TOUCHED. Regardless if Lionel helped Michael with the writing…the song has a Historical place in Music History, and should be off limits to redoing, remaking whatever you want to call it.
I know Michael was a great humanitarian and loved to help people…but I feel he would have been creative and wrote a new song for Haiti.
I am a supporter of Haiti…but not of changing the song! This is just my opinion.

I recently went to Barnes and Noble to purchase a book on Customer Relationship Management with my Membership Card and Value Customer Coupon. As I headed into the store, Michael came to my mind (which is not unusal )but I started feeling VERY SAD because I was thinking about MJ's 1st Anniversary approaching on June 25th in LA and I NEVER had an OPPORTUNITY to meet our see our BELOVED MJ LIVE - EVER! I was headed straight for the Information Center, in the middle of the store, to see if the book I was looking for was in stock but I got distracted with other displays in the store. I started drifting further and further to the left side of the store for some ODD reason. I was looking at the Black History Month Display and then St. Patrick Day Display and then the various Cookbook Displays.

ANYWAY- I said "Irene, get FOCUS on the purpose of the TRIP to B&N". I then turned to head to the Information Center and then OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE to the LEFT- I spotted Michael... On the Cover of A Book of Course (Hee, Hee)!! You know how we MJ FANS can spot ANYTHING with MJ a mile AWAY!! There MJ stood Front and Center on the Top Shelf on the Display. The MJ Book that I never seen before had that famous pose of MJ from this Billie Jean Performance at his 30th Anniversary MJ Special. I approached the display with caution because not every MJ BOOK is a POSITIVE ONE! I said "Mike - what's this??" I noticed the other books on the Display of Elvis, Bruce Springstein, Guns and Roses, The Beatles, BB King, Bob Dylan, etc.. The Display read "LEGENDS OF MUSIC" and I was so please to see MJ's BOOK - was where it belonged - FRONT and CENTER!

I took the MJ Book from the Display and it was entitled "Michael Jackson Treasures" - Celebrating the King of Pop in Photos and Memorabilias. I started flipping through the book and said OMG - ARE YOU KIDDING ME, IS THIS FOR REAL??? simply amazing i admit i cried to see michael. we love you michael and missing you everyday cant believe that u are gone. a true angel on disguise love you forever and will always will be in my heart/ overall big standing oviation love amazing what else is their to say,

1. Firstly, it was done for a good cause...so I applaud that. I hope it makes a difference...I honestly do.
2. The politics about Streisand, Keyna, T-Pain with auto-tune and why they were on the video, and all the other little things you want to nit pick at...I'll let you guys argue about that.
3. The rap at the end...again...I'll let you all talk about that. I didn't mind it. Rap has been a part of our modern day culture for a while, so it is fair to include it.

What I'd like to address the production quality.

Being a musician, music producer and an engineer, I know what it takes to compose, record, mix, and master a piece of music in a studio with big SSL or Neve consoles and lots of outboard gear at your disposal. I've always been a fan of Quincy Jones and his style of music production. The "Off The Wall" album and his "The Dude" album were instrumental in my development as a producer and mixer. But I have to say, this production comes nowhere near to that caliber of production.

The music is weak, and too far in back of the whole mix. The vocals are way too loud (especially Streisand’s solo part). The drums are covered in reverb with no real feel or presence to them. The instrumental sounds are a wash of “milk-toast” pads with no discernible lines to stand out. There was nothing outstanding about this production at all. Even if Quincy was only the executive producer and not the hands on the board and the ears between the Genelecs (near-field mixing speakers), someone should have done something to stop this from happening. With all the talented engineers, mixers, musicians, keyboard programmers and such we have in the field and all the people that Quincy and Lionel have at their disposal, why didn’t someone say or do something.

It goes to prove, it’s not the equipment, it’s the person running it. A $750,000 SSL G series console with all the best outboard gear in the world in that studio that cost probably about $150 to $200 an hour to rent, and an engineer @ $50.00 an hour…and I could have done a better job with that song on my Pro Tools LE system at home that costs $5,000.

Again…I’m not knockin’ the reason why the song was remade, should it have been remade, or the effort and sacrifice that people made to do the remake or the video…I’m just disappointed in the final product of music from a production stand point.

P.S. Oh yeah...one other thing...Michael Jackson would have NEVER put his stamp of approval on this final product. He was a perfectionist...and would NEVER have accepted this type of mediocrity in his productions.

This one was good, but changed a lot by the other newer singers. The 1985 was much better.

It was so beautiful song and they destroy it.

I was upset at first that they were remaking the song- I felt that they couldn't do it without Michael. But I'm glad to see that they kept Michael's vocals on the track and slipped him in the video. I must admit that I did cry. It's for a great cause, and I'm sure that Michael would have agreed to do this- but I also feel that maybe he would have done something new. But hey, there will never be another person like Michael and I don't think that anyone can write anything like this ever again. Everyone did a beautiful job and I'm glad it didn't stray too far from the original.

The new version is good but not nearly as heartfelt as the original. I'll download the new version knowing that it can help the people from Haiti. And, because Lionel and Quincy included Michael's original vocals on it. Thank God. God Bless you Michael. God Bless You.

The new version was very good, and I was thrilled, because Quincy Jones left the image of Michael in this new clip!
However, it is undeniable that there is no comparison with the original version of the '80s.
But what counts is the intention!

You know , all you people complaining about the new version should just keep quiet... its a new generation, complete with rappers, and the autotune, so get over it.. yeah, the old generation one was more heartfelt, but it doesn't matter how they sounded.. they did this for haiti, and I'm sure Michael would've loved this version too. So stop being so critical, and just let the song play. This is the newer generations sound. I liked it.. I thought they did a great job, because they did it for Haiti.. and that's all that matters. <3

Quincy Jones should have had announced that Michael would have been a part of this video from second number one! Why did he wait till Katherine came up with the request?! This song is Michael's (yes, to be fair, Lionel Ritchie’s as well) his dedication in doing it in the most perfect way was inspiring to the whole team that days back in 1985. Not to mention his interpretation! And let's not forget that Michael's steps were first on roads called humanitarian work, or aids relief (not only Africa but Europe as well, remember Sarajevo ?) or charity .He would have given all his energy for the Haitian people I am sure, Michael couldn't have stayed aside, not for a second. Better later than never to recognize this, isn't it Quincy, isn't it Lionel?Now that all ended like it should have been from the start, I guess I have to thank you and tell you that I can’t wait to buy the CD.For the people of Haiti, for Michael's dreams for a better world, let's stand up and give a helping hand, today!

Everyone needs to (please) put to rest their personal opinions regarding whether or not they liked the rap aspect, whether or not they liked the artists involved, how great they thought the vocals were (or weren't), etc., and stop making comparisions with the original. It's not about your personal opinion. It's not about you. The meaning of the project is to use the great song that was initially created for a great cause and use again for a new great cause. For every artist who was involved in the making of it, whether rapper, crooner, stylist, or whatever genre they came from, I give high accolades to each and every one of them for taking time out of their lives to be a part of such a generous endeavour. We need to see the positive in everything and help make this world a more positive place. That was one of Michael's goals and desires. If you're a fan and if you respect him, try to follow his lead. Be a part of the solution, not the problem.
