As Michael himself said, he reaped the benefits of his fame; but he paid his dues as well. In these days of lip sync and auto-tune, a real, live "triple threat" (sing, dance, act) is a rarity. Not only that, Michael came up in a time when he needed excellent breath control and diaphragmatic strength to knock his voice out to the back row while singing without a microphone....and dancing to boot...no easy feat. What really amazed me about Michael was that once he reached a goal....no matter how high....he never rested on his laurels....he competed against himself to better his own record....which is why, to me, he was one of the most innovative and polished performers there ever was.
