Michael Jackson's "This Is It," to be Presented In Theaters Around The World

MICHAEL JACKSON'S "THIS IS IT" TO BE PRESENTED IN THEATERS AROUND THE WORLD BY SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT AND SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT
-Film Drawn From Legendary Entertainer's Last Rehearsals and Behind-The-Scenes Footage Will Be Released October 30th in High Definition with Digital Sound-

CULVER CITY, Calif., August 10, 2009 - Beginning October 30th, the world will have a front-row seat for Michael Jackson's final concert, as Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment release Michael Jackson's This Is It.

This Is It is being produced with the full support of The Estate of Michael Jackson and will be drawn from hundreds of hours of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage, captured in high definition with state-of-the-art digital sound as the late singer was preparing for his concert series in London. The film, which will also offer select sequences in 3-D, will provide a unique career retrospective and feature interviews with some of Jackson's closest friends and creative collaborators.

The announcement was made by Michael Lynton, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of the studio, Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, Chief Executive Officer of Sony Music Entertainment, and Rob Stringer, Chairman of Columbia/Epic Label Group, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. The companies serve as the principal entertainment divisions of Sony Corporation.

Joining Sony in the announcement was The Estate of Michael Jackson, administered by his longtime attorney John Branca and veteran music executive John McClain, a Jackson family friend for more than 40 years. Proceeds the Estate earns from the film's release will benefit the Michael Jackson Family Trust, the entity that Mr. Jackson specified in his will is to receive all of his assets.

The rights to the exclusive footage were acquired from AEG Live and The Estate of Michael Jackson. Sony Pictures and Sony Music will co-produce with AEG Live and the Estate, and Sony Pictures will distribute the film worldwide. Randy Phillips and Paul Gongaware of AEG Live will serve as producers of the film.

The majority of the film's footage was shot in June, 2009 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, and The Forum in Inglewood, California, as Jackson prepared for "This Is It," the series of fifty concerts Jackson planned to present at the O2 Arena in London.

This Is It will offer Jackson fans and music lovers worldwide a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the performer, his career, and the stage spectacular that would have been. The film will provide moviegoers with an unforgettable front row experience compiled from extensive footage that shows Jackson's meticulous preparation for his 2009 London shows.

Said Branca, "Our goal is to work with partners who treat Michael's legacy with dignity and respect, while allowing us to substantially build the value of his estate for the benefit of Mrs. Katherine Jackson, Michael's three children and the charitable causes that meant so much to him during his life. We are confident we found the right partners for this project in Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment. Sony and Michael enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial history together, and it's only fitting that the relationship continues."

Said McClain, "This film is not only a tribute to an artist who created excitement every moment he was on stage, but also is a fitting gift to the millions of fans worldwide who loved him and who he devoted his professional life to entertaining. John and I are thrilled to be working with Sony to build on Michael's musical legacy in a way that will generate significant proceeds for his family and for children in need."

"People who have seen this footage are astounded by the amazing quality of Michael Jackson's performance," said Lynton. "This historic recording of the last time he sang and danced on stage shows the legendary artist in an incredibly powerful way, with crystal clear images and sound. We understand the importance of producing a film that pays tribute to Michael as an artist, and are honored to work with the Estate of Michael Jackson to give audiences the gift of his final performances. I know this film will serve as further proof that Michael Jackson is one of the greatest entertainers who ever graced a stage."

"Michael lives on through his songs, his creative genius, his body of work and his passion for his art," said Rob Stringer. "He was a perfectionist on stage and through this unique film, audiences will be able to see, many for the first time, how much Michael poured into making his performances as special as they were perfect."

Said Kenny Ortega, director of and Jackson's creative partner on the This Is It concert, "The world will see what our team was so fortunate to experience, which was the full commitment, passion and creativity that Michael put into this project. He was the architect of This Is It, and we were his builders. The footage that was captured from the early stages of the production to our technical rehearsals at the STAPLES Center in L.A. will show Michael as he truly was, creatively involved with every aspect of the production, from the staging and choreography, to the music, lighting, production design and conception of the original short films and video backdrops. It will also show Michael as one of the greatest entertainers in the world and one of the industry's most creative minds. This Is It was Michael's last theatrical work and although it was still a work in progress, I think the footage will show that the process was something that Michael deeply enjoyed and that it was clear that he was on his way to another theatrical triumph."

In the coming weeks, additional information about the film will be available at www.michaeljackson.com.

Peter Schlessel, President of Worldwide Affairs, negotiated for the footage on behalf of Sony Pictures. Branca represented The Estate of Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and profoundly influential artists of all-time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture.

Five of Jackson's solo albums - "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous" and "HIStory," all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label - are among the top-sellers of all time and "Thriller" holds the distinction as the largest selling album worldwide in the history of the recording industry with more than 70 million units sold. Additionally, singles released from the Thriller album sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, another all time record.

During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and "Thriller" as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award.

Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5. In the early 1980s, he defined the art form of music video with such ground-breaking videos as "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and the epic "Thriller." Jackson's sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists.

" We, the worldwide fan community who love, respect and honour Michael Jackson are united in their defiance of Shmuley's act of betrayal. We do not support this book in any way. It is a total violation of Michael's right to privacy, and we believe the publication of the content of these tapes to be a breach of the trust Michael placed in Shmuley. We, the members of the worldwide fan community will not join Shmuley in his betrayal, and we will not help him profit from his deception of Michael. Not only will we not buy the book, we also send a clear message to all others who seek to attack the truth, beauty and integrity of Michael's memory. This statement is a declaration of our intent. We as a community will not support or tolerate any such attacks on Michael's name, memory or legacy in any way, and we actively protect Michael's legacy and rights - not only for Michael and his children who survive him, but for all of us who choose to honour what Michael achieved, endured and gave here. He lives whenever and wherever he is remembered. And we choose to remember him with love. "

This is a worldwide call to all the fans: Please paste this ' Declaration of Intent ' everywhere on youtube, facebook and every Michael Jackson site worldwide. Shmuley will be attempting to sell this book worldwide. We, the fans can limit his effectiveness by letting everyone know this book is available for download. We, the fans support the products and initiatives Sony and the ' Estate' produce as this benefits Michael's estate and his children. That is why the fans community supports this site, but we will not allow Shmuley and other opportunists to profit from Michael's death and, more than that, we will not the beautiful memory of Michael to be dishonoured and taken away from us. Please paste this everywhere and note that the book this statement refers to is available for audio play free at youtube and download free at the Forum part of this site and other public access sites. If you have already bought Shmuley's book, why not return it and get your money back.

I don't know how i am gonna wait for so long to see the movie.some sequences are in 3d?This made my excitement reach the sky ..... great !!

Boteach and Michael had not been in correspondence for the last six years of Michael's life, because Boteach did not stand by Michael when he faced charges in 2003. We do not even know if Michael intended to do a book. For all we know, this could be a carrot stick to convince the fans to buy this shabbily conceived page-turner. Michael - so often duped in life, could have merely been going along with Boteach's own request that they tape their 'therapy sessions' - as many therapists do now. They clearly sound like therapy sessions, with Boteach introducing 'leading' questions into the stream of the conversation and offering advice back. As we all know Michael considered it unacceptable to criticize another artist publicly, therefore the fact that Boteach has released audio of Michael speaking a little uncharitably about Madonna demonstrates beyond doubt that these private tapes were never meant for sale or public release. As leading Rabbi, Michael Sternfield has commented on The Huffington Post recently, Schulmey has overstepped the line and remit of a Rabbi in breaching the confidence and trust placed in him. Despite Schulmey's constant protestations that Michael wanted this published to ' bring the family together,' I am certain most people with any intelligence will recognize this book for what it is: a shameless, money-making act of exploitative betrayal with staggering deception at its heart. Could all true fans please not buy this book. This is not how Michael wanted to reconnect with us, the concert was going to be his way of doing that. Please pass on this post to Facebook and other public access sites. We are a powerful fan community - let's also be a wise one. We are not here to enable people like Schmuley to profit from Michael's death.

Best MJ tribute music video ever:

We just released a new hip hop music video tribute for Michael's birthday entitled, Shining. This is probably one of the most thoroughly produced MJ tribute videos out there... amazing costumes, great lyrics, and tons of memorable and rare MJ video clips. Check it out if you love Michael, music, or videos.

You will not be disappointed.

I am so excited!!!! I really wanted to see this one and the 3-d one! I cant wait!!!!!!

I am not ready to talk about Michael, it still hurts too much.I know I will, I know I will find a special moment in time for him, to tell him everything that is inside me, but right now, my thoughts are or too sad, or to angry, I feel a shame, I feel guilt.Could I have done something to prevent this incommensurable, unnecessary loss? And now when I can't bring him back is it right from my part to think constantly at him and not let him rest?I can't let him go, not yet!But I know I have to, out of respect, I will...but not yet!God how it hurts!
I know he tried so much for us, for those who really loved him.He put his heart on the line, he put his heart at risk, he burned his genius mind, voice and body for us, for his children to be proud of him, for those who needed him, either he knew them or he didn't.
Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right
You've got to reach out and try
Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right
Gotta put it all on the line
I recently discovered his song "On the Line".Lyrics are from this song, I keep listening and listening it, it's a love song for all of us.He gave us everything he had and could, including his life, unfortunately it's too final, too true, I wish he would have been more selfish. But this was an unknown word to Michael.
So, it's time to give him back our love and much more, though we should have done this before.Let's let past remain past and think to the future, let's think big, like Michael did, always ahead. This movie will bring Michael for the last time to us and he will be seen by the young generation, the elder generation, who maybe don't understand what is all this pain we are going through and what are we talking about. It happened to me, I am sure it happened to you too.I am sure Michael will conquer their hearts like he did ours.Let's break every record we can regarding Michael, let's make him to hear that we love him, only him. Those who continue take advantage of Michael's greatness should be insignificant to us, they will have to respond, I hope, someday, looking into his children eyes and in the end to Michael himself, up there!
I loved and still love everything about him, everything, and I know I always will.I am so proud of what he had accomplished, including his last preparations for his musical good bye to us.I embrace the idea, because being only human, I keep desperately wanting anything that comes from Michael.
Love, Mihaela

I love you Michael. I miss you so very much. I will definitely watch the movie. Can't wait for it's release. It definitely would be a Mega-Hit. Thanks for all involved doing this for the fans and his estate and loved ones (children, mother and charity). Hope the investors who lost money from cancelled London Tour would be compensated. Hope that there will be a place in the future that fans can visit to immortalize Michael's Legacy like Graceland for Elvis. Just like Mozart, he is the music genius of our time. He will be remembered hundred of years from now.

greedy people!!!! This is so sad!!

why is sony involved? those guys have tried to fry michael's brain because invincible album...

Cash, cash, ca$h.... Sad

The world is bad.

Please be honest: it is not about Michael, it is about money. It's disgusting how you try to cash out and the man hasn't been buried yet.

I find it highly disrespectful

This will be a very exciting day and I hope the proceeds will go to the Jackson family! We love you Michael!

Michael Joseph Jackson

PLEASE GO SEE THIS MOVIE. I love Michael and will always be a huge fan. And one of the things we all know about Michael is that he was very competitive and would want anything associated with his name to BREAK THE RECORD. So, let us all help Michael break the opening day record for a film release. Let us show the world how much Michael IS loved and IS missed. I know there are issues with Sony and people making money off of Michael's name. But, for Michael and his estate which will benefit greatly from this, let's support this film. Let's help Michael do what he always did in life - Break Another Record! Michael lives on through his music and performance. This film has the power to introduce a whole other generation to Michael - something he wanted to do and was attempting to do with his tour. If this is the only way for Michael's dream to be realized, then let's support it in droves. Bring everyone you know and Let’s Dance, Let's Shout, Let's Cry, Let's Laugh, Let's Remember, and Let us Honor the greatest entertainer that ever lived - MICHAEL JACKSON.

Michael, I will always remember you, always stand up for you, and always honor you!! Thank you for giving us everything you had. Much love and respect to the King of Pop!!

"This Is It" sadly, is going to be, This Is It. Michael is, "Gone To Soon". And Yes, "I'll Be There"!
The movie should honor him in life, but also bring a sense of peace on his death.
I think it will help the healing of Us, his fans, over the loss we All share. There seems to be a void in our hearts. One being the concerts in which " we knew " we would see Michael perform one more time. He had said, This Is It, would be his last performances. The movie will be a comfort and an added Wonderment of his Legacy!
Another void is not having a permanent place for us to visit him after death. I think in time there will be such a place.
An additional comfort comes to me knowing that one of the things that Michael wanted to do for his children will become a reality! He had said that he wanted his children to see him perform. To show them what Daddy did. Can you imagine the amazement and the wonder in their eyes and upon their faces! And the joy in Michael looking down from the heavens to see them with their expressions!
So, if not for the making of this movie, look at what we would be missing. Seeing "Our" Michael, one last time.
Thank You Lord, for giving us Michael.
Thank You Joesph and Katherine Jackson for sharing with us, Your Michael.
Thank You to All that is making this movie possible.
Thank You Michael for giving of yourself.
You Will Always and Forever Be In Our Hearts!
God Bless.

I do not know if I really happy for this, the only thing I know it is that I hope that they do not use him again for "money making" that its what usually they do!!!!
Just I want to say that Michael will be in my heart for ever!!!

People and companies used Michael as a "money making machine" during his life and even after his death.I feel pain when I'm thinking about it...

Michael is immortal. We love you and we know the truth...

Doesnt anybody feel anger that the rights were sold to SONY . They tried to destroy Michael, and now they will earn hundreds of millions with him.
Why didnt AEG itselfe bring it out?
Let me know what you think
cu

It would be the greatest present for all of us, MJJ fans.
But I think It would be also a huge pain to see Michael's rehearsals through the prism of his death. Knowing Michael's perfectionism, I foresee how hard Michael worked, how he burned himself on stage to prepare his performances. I feel so big LOVE Michael sends to us, his fans.

Michael is immortal... I love you more...

I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT IN THEATERS BUT I WISHED I WOULD HAD SAW HIM PERFORM IN PERSON..THT WAS MY GREATEST WISH..MICHAEL I MISS U SO MUCH,WHY DID U HAVE TO GO??

I cant wait But I know it will make me sad I miss him Sad

I cant wait but I know I will cry I will miss him:(

Wow. this sounds like a must see kinda movie. This will be added to my scheadal for sure.

R.I.P. Michael

to janice20052.... i've already gotten a ticket to california for Michael's Bday, to visit the homes. Is there something going on in Vegas?

It's only fitting to toast this remarkable human being with a 'this is your life' movie. I do hope there are some clips from 'Ghosts' and the making of the film. This wraps Michael up to a T. He wished he could sit on a bench at Disney World in disguise and just watch people not notice him. I'm sure being able to do that he would have felt like King for a day. What a truly genuine and diverse man he was. What a tremendous loss. I'm a huge Norman Rockwell fan too and carry my keychain of Spring Morning (the boy bending over to greet the rabbit depicted at Neverland Ranch) that I bought way back to keep Michael close to my heart. You were the brightest and the best at all you did. Wish i had met you but maybe someday second star to the right and on til morning.....God's Speed Beautiful Soul
