Michael Jackson ***WHERE WERE YOU WHEN?*** Michael Jackson's Thriller Video premiered? *SHARE YOUR MEMORIES*
I remember weeks before the premiere radio stations and Friday Night Video show constantly was announcing the 14min video and how great it was to be, OMG they were so right!!
It was December 1983, The whole day I couldn't wait till Friday Night Videos came on which was on NBC, If you didn't have cable for MTV, you had to watch that show and they were premiering Thriller that night.
I remember sitting in my room by myself, I was quiet with anticipation waiting on the video, and when it came on, I took in every moment, every word, every dance move, I had watched plenty of videos, but nothing specticular as this one, It seem like it was over so fast, I wanted to see it over and over again, but no cable and no $1000 dollar VCR, so it took a while before I saw it again, but that video stayed locked in my memory forever.
Check out the opening credits of Friday Night Videos and a few minutes of Thriller

I dont remember..I was 4 at the time..
when I was a bit older I remember excitement when I saw it..I dont remember being scared but probably I was..
I dont remember the actual premiere, but I remember the first time I saw THRILLER. It must have been around the time of the premiere though. I was watching a saturday morning kids show and they had a studio audience debate about THRILLER and whether it should be show on daytime tv or only on latenight tv. I was around 7 years old, but I wasnt scared at all. I was just fascinated by this amazing manl and loved all the dancing and the music.
I went over to watch it at my friends house. We were all excited because we had been waiting for days to get to see it. We were wondering if it was going to be as great as expected and then there it was. Just as we had expected from Michael, the greatest video ever made. I wonder what those friends are up to these days.
I think we've had cable ever since it's advent in the late 70's.....good grief that's hard to believe. And we'd been waiting forever to finally see it. My kids were just little tots at the time, one and three years old and I had to hide them under a blanket at the scary parts. My hubby and I had always been "horror" geeks so Thriller wasn't all that scary to us, but it WAS simply the most amazing music video we'd ever seen and The Making Of Michael Jackson's Thriller helped our oldest one see how "mahnstows" (his pronunciation) were made in the movies and how they were nothing to be afraid of because they weren't real. And watching Michael being slathered in the goop to make the werewolf mask was hilarious and we were fascinated by the mechanics behind the entire transformation. The pulsating skin, the ears and nails growing, the zombies. It was all groundbreaking stuff! Oh man, this was so long ago......nostalgia's creeping up on me.
*bump*
I totally agree with you! I love Thriller too! It's still amazing to this day, and nothing has come close to being a great as Thriller. Michael was a genius!
@ Amber I understand... Mikey could definitely keep the Ghosts at bay. To this day I still love Thriller oh so much just because it wasn't just some dumb video... this was the most exciting music short film known to mankind.

LOL! I was 5, and Thriller was the scariest thing around!! I was also terrified of American Werewolf in London, which Michael saw and based the idea of Thriller on. Uh-uh. I don't do well with scary movies. Love you Mike! I'd let him keep the ghosts away.
lol @ Amber.... girl you were scurred of Mikey?! My cousin Angel watched it with her family, she too hid but it was when Mikey turned into the zombie.

I remember the Thriller premiere clearly, because it was life changing.
I was 5-years-old at the time. I was at the neighbor's house. Everyone was excited and gathered around the TV. When it came on everyone got quiet. Everything started out great. Michael looked great, so handsome...then he changed into a werewolf, and I RAN screaming from the room, out the door, down the street, all the way home. LOL! I swear! He scared the beejeezus out of me! And don't get me started on the yellow eyes. I thought it was frightening!
For the longest time my brother and I would get scared just listening to the album track. Vincent Price was scary with his evil laugh. *shivers* I remember we were testing our fear and listening to Thriller in the middle of the night. Yeah, we were chicken. We had all the lights on. LOL!
Ever since then I was a fan of Michael Jackson. Thank you Michael for sharing your amazing world. <3

I remember Friday Night Videos... December 1983, I was engaged to my husband, planning a Feb 1984 wedding, he was over at my apt and MTV played it we sat and watched and loved it and then MTV kept playing it in heavy rotation it was on every hour
I didn't exist. My parents weren't even together then.
I think we all thought we would marry Michael I know I did!!!!!
Friday Night Videos were the best! I remember having sleepovers and doing everything imaginable to stay up till midnight to watch them! The night Thriller was on though we had no problem staying awake. I was 11 and I was gonna marry Michael someday, lol. They advertised it for weeks and when the big night came I was so excited and happy that I didn't even kick my little sister out of MY slumber party. It was awesome.
