RECENSIONE: MICHAEL JACKSON THIS IS IT

Michael Jackson muore in scena come in un dramma shakespeariano. Suicidio, overdose, arresto cardiaco? Il sesso, le (presunte) molestie, la fama. C’è tutto, come in un film hollywoodiano. C’è una grande villa, una stanza piena di indizi, un corpo nudo sul letto, la polizia che indaga, la folla che spinge fuori e oltre i nastri, l’autopsia, le (inverosimili) ipotesi del decesso, le esequie, quelle pubbliche e quelle private. Muore così il 25 giugno a Los Angeles e a un mese dal suo concerto londinese, Michael Jackson, Re del Pop, che resisteva al tempo danzando. Ma il sadismo della stampa e dello spettatore vuole sopra ogni cosa che il morto resti in scena a ciondolare sul patibolo mediatico, senza il conforto di potersene mai davvero andare via. Corpo conteso, eredità (artistica e sostanziale) reclamata, immagine contestata, l’artista dell’Indiana non trova pace, ostinatamente e barbaramente esposto alla luce del racconto. La sua vita e la sua morte vengono catturate e imbrigliate dentro una cronaca volgare e indecente. Poi arriva in sala Michael Jackson’s – This is it di Kenny Ortega, si spengono le luci e inizia un altro film che potrete (e dovete) vedere in tutte le sale del mondo per quindici giorni. Poi verrà annullato, come un concerto in un giorno mesto di pioggia.

Diretto e prodotto da Ortega con il supporto della Fondazione Michael Jackson, il documentario pop del regista californiano è uno sguardo privato sul concerto che avrebbe, ci potete giurare, rivoluzionato l’arte dello stare in scena. Declinando l’approccio biografico, le interviste, gli sballi, le strade percorse o i negozi visitati, l’autore mette ai nastri di partenza una lucida, tirata e micidiale macchina del pop che si chiama(va) Michael Jackson, regalando ai suoi spettatori quello che sarebbe stato l’ultimo tour dell’artista e offrendogli un punto di vista (im)possibile su tutte le prove provate, sofferte, sudate. Non appena Michael entra sulla scena, in giacca in silver e simultaneamente nera, meraviglia del découpage, gli occhi si spalancano e l’anima si desta. Adesso esistono soltanto il gesto, il volto, il corpo, la musica, la parola, il tono, l’emozione. Come il suo man in the mirror, Jackson risponde con uno sguardo d’intesa alla sua immagine speculare.
Da Bad a Thriller, da Billie Jean a Go to be there, da Smooth Criminal a I just can’t stop loving you, M. J. si muove agile, esperto e sinuoso, battendo il tempo in un’esecuzione perfetta che provoca emozioni autentiche. Perché la bravura tecnica, come suggeriscono le coreografe addette alle selezioni dei ballerini che faranno corona intorno all’artista, non è sufficiente per concretizzare un sogno e raggiungere “la prima fila” nello show. Soltanto undici ballerini proveranno la singular sensation in costumi dorati e cilindro, soltanto la prima linea accompagnerà Jackson sul palco e ne sarà la sua osservante e reverente emanazione, moltiplicata all’infinito come negli specchi di Chorus Line e grazie alla magia del green screen. Dopo aver personalmente promosso gli elementi più meritevoli, l’artista avvia lo show, rigorosamente cronometrico e superbamente coreografico, costringendo la macchina da presa da creatrice dello spettacolo a spettatrice dell’esibizione.
Lo schermo diventa allora tutta una scoperta: M. J. allarga le braccia e muove le mani come un direttore d’orchestra in un teatro di marionette e di talenti, dentro uno spettacolo fondato sulla centralità della danza e di un artista in grado di avere vita sulla scena e di distruggere gli automatismi quotidiani del corpo, creando una diversa qualità di energia, visibile anche in situazioni di immobilità. Dietro l’impressione di facilità e naturalezza, lo spettatore scoprirà una mania di perfezionismo assoluta ("Le prove servono a questo"), sempre nobile, sempre garbata. Il momento più poetico è il virtuosistico assolo su Billie Jean, mentre ballerini e stelle stanno a guardare. Guardano espandersi il suo mito leggero e impalpabile, la dimensione espressiva della sua anima, la verità di un corpo che balla "ricomposto" (da Ortega) nel modo e nel luogo giusto. This is it. That guy at the keybod for The Way You Make Me Feel - he's a new guy? He was trying to correct Michael! (Can't remember his words but something like asking Michael when go back think over it and adjust the music next day or something). It only now dawn on me he's pretty rude! The music is Michael's and Michael's the boss, he should do what Michael wants him to do. I wonder if Michael was worried about this particular musician.
