"Children's Universal Bill of Rights" by Michael Jackson
I'm sure you've all read this, but I just read the speech for like the tenth time and this touched me so much I just had to share it. This is so universally true.

As you all know, our two countries broke from each other over what Thomas Jefferson referred to as "certain inalienable rights". And while we Americans and British might dispute the justice of his claims, what has never been in dispute is that children have certain inalienable rights, and the gradual erosion of those rights has led to scores of children worldwide being denied the joys and security of childhood.
I would therefore like to propose tonight that we install in every home a Children's Universal Bill of Rights, the tenets of which are:
1. The right to be loved without having to earn it
2. The right to be protected, without having to deserve it
3. The right to feel valuable, even if you came into the world with nothing
4. The right to be listened to without having to be interesting
5. The right to be read a bedtime story, without having to compete with the evening news
6. The right to an education without having to dodge bullets at schools
7. The right to be thought of as adorable - (even if you have a face that only a mother could love).
Friends, the foundation of all human knowledge, the beginning of human consciousness, must be that each and every one of us is an object of love. Before you know if you have red hair or brown, before you know if you are black or white, before you know of what religion you are a part, you have to know that you are loved.

AMEN to that. I wholeheartedly agree. Children never asked to be born. They are an heritage from God. They are a gift and should be treated as such.

...well i never had that..and no one cares so i did it for myself..i read the story of creation..and it has a little girl name alice who goes back into biblical time and witness everything first hand...

if God should say i live long enough to have kids..i will make it my duty to instill love in them...love that does not require 90 on a test...love that is easy..that they do not have to work for or get my approval..and ill take them to disney world and read them bedtimes stories..and tell my kids i love them..and trust them..when they say something..and not scream at them all the time....
michael if i have kids in life..if this is what God should say if i live long enough..this is what ill do..make my kids feel love and not ignore...
some people want to grow up to be like their parents..and then some of them want to be the complete opposite..of them in certain triats and behaviors..i love my family...but im going to be the complete opposite of them!!!!
Oh,I like this thread. Michael proposed this rights at his Oxford Union speech in 2001. I applied #5, as well as the others, to my life. My little child brings me the book to read it at bedtime.
