This OFF THE WALL forum needs more respect

I am feeling like we as MJ fans are not respecting the Off The Wall era enough. This was the era to sky rocket his career. Why do people not care much for this era? I dont get it!!!!

Actually, "Off The Wall" was his first solo album post-Motown. You REALLY separate the MJ pretenders from the contenders when that's brought up, lol!

I respect Off The Wall, but then again I can see why some if not most people bring up Thriller or Bad in a potential conversation. I honestly only like a few tracks from Off The Wall: Rock With You, Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, Workin Day and Night, Burn This Disco Out, Get on The Floor, and the title song. Remember that Off The Wall was his first solo album, a starting point for his solo career. He didn't really leave his mark in his solo career until Thriller came out and sole I don't even know how many copies around the globe. I grew up in the 90's which was around the time of the Dangerous and History albums. Thriller is my favorite. Just because people don't mention Off The Wall as much as Thriller or Bad, doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't respected. We wouldn't have Thriller or Bad if not for Off The Wall.

Nieesha, I agree with you wholeheartedly! I also feel Michael's Motown era isn't respected enough (or paid attention to) by those that have come after it. Michael's star power didn't start with "Thriller" or "Off the Wall". He was an established international phenom when he was a child. Those solo albums only shot him into the stratosphere above anybody else.

Personally, I love "Off The Wall" more than "Thriller" and felt he was snubbed at the 1980 Grammy Awards for it. That album kicks major ass and he should've gotten alot more Grammys for it....OUTRAGE!

I love to listen to and explore an artist's entire career progression, whether I was born when they first blew up or not.

thank you someone finally understand what i am saying. thank you for the support

How can any MJ fan not care for this era? That's crazy in my opinion this is my favourite era although each of the era's mean something special to me. The twinkle Michael had in his eye during this time, his vibrancy you can't capture that again. I love MIchael Jackson ANY era, his whole career from Jackson 5 days to Invincible all demand and deserve respect.

I love Off the wall!! I love Off the wall!! IIIII LLLLOOOVVVVEEE OFF THE WALL!!!!!!!!! (I think you get the point) Smiling Smiling:

I really love Off the wall era!!!Seriously...

thats and outrage i agree. Off the wall was his first album solo to break records! Or do people not know that! Real fans know that.

People don't care for this era? I guess I see that....okay now that I think of it I always knew this but didn't want to admit it. I mean, that was technically what started it all, in a way. When people who aren't true fans think of him, they think of Thriller and some don't even know about Off the Wall. I've even had someone say they don't like it b/c it's from the disco era and she claimed to be a fan! I was outraged. Maybe that's an idea? Nevertheless, I love Off the Wall
